Despite the threat of rain — and some occasional heavy showers — community members from all over the Ohio Valley came together over the holiday weekend to celebrate Native American heritage during the annual Harvest Moon Pow Wow held in the Gallipolis City Park. Several vendors — most of whom handcrafted their wares — were on site to interact with those in attendance, and several of those who made their way to the festival were there to celebrate their own Native American roots. Among those were Barbara Pierce and Randy Prater, siblings from Vinton County and Columbus respectively, who are Cherokee. Another Cherokee working to preserve his heritage was Buddy Gragg of Chillicothe who demonstrated how to carve arrowheads.
