Several Gallia Countians with a taste for the blues made the short trek north to Pomeroy Friday night to see a musical legend perform at the amphitheater on the Ohio River — and all for free. Clarence Spady, a native of Scranton, PA, performed with local musicians as part of the Rhythm on the River series, organized by the Pomeroy Blues and Jazz Society. Local musicians included three members of Athens-based Elemental Groove Theory — Kyle Slemmer, saxophone; Matt Urminski, bass; and Eric Wright, drums — as well as Meigs County resident Bernie Nau on keyboard. Nau is also the owner/operator of Peach Fork Studios in Pomeroy, Ohio. Rhythm on the River is presented on Friday nights throughout the summer free of charge.
