VINTON — Vinton Elementary celebrated Right to Read week on May 7-11 with the theme, “Be a Smart Cookie: Read.”
Students participated in classroom activities, such as: graphing favorite cookies, presenting classroom plays, coloring and poetry contests, cookie decorating and lots of reading.
Students also had the honor to hear two national, award-winning storytellers. Lyn Ford shared her folktale adaptations rooted in African American storytelling traditions and Jim Flanningan used humorous stories to instill positive character education assets within the students. Bossard Memorial Library, also, shared stories and discussed upcoming summer reading events.
Students winning awards throughout the week for various contests were: Gabby Cooper, Beth Gillman, Dawson Russell, Kaylene McGinness, Jacob Campbell, Kelsey Price, Carmen Gillenwater, Will Hash, Dakota Mullins, Kaylieona Kemper, Wayne Workman, Lexi Campbell, Isaac Barrett, Deedee Braden, Mason Skidmore, Ruth Rickett, Owen Barrett, Livia Prince, Trinity Boggess, Shania Mullins, Jordan Garrison, Skyla Hall, Hailey Edwards, Seth McDonald, Gracie Truance, Victoria Bradbury, Sydney Blouir, Lydia Jones, Brantley Brown, Alexxus Painter, Rory Twyman, Britney Davis, Destiny Brown, Brianna Suter and Carmen Barcus.
