GALLIPOLIS — The construction of the future Gallipolis Municipal Building is on schedule, according to Gallipolis City Manager Randy Finney.
Finney reported during a special Gallipolis City Commission meeting on Tuesday evening that the completion date for the “administrative” facility located at 333 Third Avenue is set for January 23, 2013.
“Everything has gone fairly well. We haven’t had any issues so far with that,” Finney said. “They are on schedule. As long as the weather holds out for them, we will be in good shape.”
The completion of the municipal building follows closely on the heels of the Gallipolis Justice Center which opened to the public late last month.
The justice center, located at 518 Second Avenue, houses the Gallipolis Municipal Court, Gallipolis City Police Department and city solicitor’s offices, while the remaining administrative offices, including the city manager’s, utility and tax offices, will be located in the new municipal building.
The administrative facility is being constructed on city-owned property by Hoon, Inc., of Athens, a company that presented the lowest bid for the work at $794,450.
Approximately 12-14 employees will work within the 6,000 square foot building. The facility will also be the future site of city commission meetings.
Finney also reported during Tuesday’s meeting that an open house for the Gallipolis Justice Center will be held from 4-6 p.m. on Thursday, November 1 at the justice center.
According to Finney, a $19,000 change order passed by the commission on Tuesday for stabilization and blacktopping of the back lot of the facility, among other small items, should be the last bill for the construction of the justice center.
