POMEROY — Pomeroy Mayor Mary McAngus resigned today amid allegations of discrimination.
Pomeroy Village Council President Jackie Welker said McAngus delivered the letter to Council Member Victor Young in a sealed envelope Saturday. Young contacted Welker, and the two opened the envelope which contained McAngus’ resignation.
The letter, obtained by The Daily Sentinel, reads as follows:
To the Resident of the Village of Pomeroy, Ohio,
Due to circumstances, I am resigning my position as Mayor of Pomeroy, as of today, Saturday, February, 9, 2013. It has been a pleasure for me to serve the ones that have supported me.
Thank you,
Mary McAngus
The letter of resignation will be considered during Monday’s regularly scheduled council meeting.
As president of Pomeroy Village Council, Welker will step in as acting mayor.
Welker said that the village must now work with the Board of Elections to determine the next step in filling the position.
