After a full day of food and fun at the Bob Evans Farm Festival, one cowboy was tuckered out and took a break on the bleachers next to the stage behind the Homestead Museum. Children of all ages and their parents flocked to the festival this weekend to enjoy the many kid-friendly demonstrations and activities that have come to be an expected feature of the festival each year.
The Ohio Top Hands Equine Mounted Drill Team were featured each day at the 42nd Annual Bob Evans Farm Festival. The drill team, along with tractor square dancing by the Delaware County Tractor Square Dancers, drew in crowds all weekend to the horse arena at the farm.
RIO GRANDE — Beautiful skies and fair weather marked the 42nd Annual Bob Evans Farm Festival this weekend in Rio Grande.
Hundreds of vendors, crafters, demonstrators and musicians from around the region, along with an army of volunteers, helped to pull off another successful year at the newly re-designed farm.
The festival, held Friday through Sunday, was the second year that visitors of the farm festival have had the chance to enjoy the new layout of the farm.
The $3 million renovation project that began in 2011 and was finished early this year, included the restoration of several of the buildings on site, the improvement of the farm festival field, as well as the relocation of the historic Adamsville log cabin village.
Each year, the festival attracts around 30,000 visitors from as many as 19 states, and the 2012 festival was no different as festival-goers flocked in to enjoy music by The Boxcars and The Gibson Brothers at the amphitheater stage, roving entertainment by the University of Rio Grande’s Grande Chorale, pie eating and cow chip tossing contests, cow milking by the Laurel Valley Creamery, and herding by Alan Millers’ Border Collies, among many other attractions.
Also this year, after hours entertainment was held on Friday and Saturday night with a highlight of the entertainment being a performance of “That was Bob,” a production about the life of Bob Evans created through the collaborate efforts of the Bob Evans Farm, the Madog Center for Welsh Studies and the University of Rio Grande’s theatre program.
The 43rd Annual Bob Evans Farm Festival will be take place in October 2013 at the Bob Evans Farm in Rio Grande.
Upcoming winter events at Bob Evans Farm include a Gospel Harmony Boys concert at 7 p.m. on Saturday, November 3 in the event barn, and “Christmas Down on the Farm” from 1-5 p.m. on Saturday, December 1.
