GALLIPOLIS — Rural King’s new Gallipolis location has now officially opened its doors, although it has been open for business for the past week. And it has been a busy week.

“It’s going very well so far,” said David Pfeiffer, store manager, “But then, we do have an extensive range. We sell anything from sporting goods to jeans, housewares, farm chemicals and feed.”

The Illinois-based company was founded in 1960, and is a family business owned by Gary and Alex Malvin. It now has two locations in Ohio, bringing the nationwide number up to 55. The store has employed 50 people from the immediate area.

“The community here has been great,” said Woody Cundiff, store co-manager. “It’s accepted us very well.”

Cundiff said that the inventory is consistently extensive and caters to all areas of rural life — both in- and outdoors. The store has a large automotive section featuring all the major name-brands, such as Milwaukee, Black & Decker, tools and equipment for plumbing and other home-maintenance, and an expanded pet section with a range of pharmaceuticals.

“We have shots and vaccines, antibiotics, as well as the usual pet foods and other accessories,” Cundiff said. “We have feed and equipment for pets and large animals.”

The store also carries outdoor apparel for men, women, and children, including a Carhartt selection and boots from Justin, Wolverine and John Deer.

“We do carry kids’ clothing and boots, and steel toe boots for both men and women, and we have Under Armour products,” Cundiff noted. “We also have work jeans for the everyday price of $9.99. Those are really popular always.”

Cundiff said that the store also has a good array of miscellaneous housewares and foodstuffs, including rugs, laundry supplies, candy, large bags of jerky; it also carries all heating needs, for wood-burning stoves and fireplaces, as well as large tools for the barn, logsplitters and chainsaws.

Those who would like more information or to check out the online availability of items, may visit the Rural King web site at www.ruralking.com, where they can sign up to receive a newsletter and will be notified of sales.
