GALLIPOLIS — Saturday, October 6, will be an exciting day filled with food and fun when the 8th Annual French City Chili-Fest returns to the Gallipolis City Park.
All day, from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m., the park will be alive with activities, food and entertainment.
The day will begin with the Chili Chase for Diabetes, sponsored by the Gallipolis Lions.
The beer tent will open at 10 a.m. and hot dogs will be ready at 11 a.m.
Football fans will be able to watch a featured football game, shown on a large screen TV in at on State Street, beginning at 11:30 a.m. Tables and chairs will be set up, and refreshments provided.
The highlight of the annual event is the French City Chili-Fest Cook-off, beginning at noon with contestants coming from a wide area to prepare their favorite chili for judging and cash prizes. Winners will be announced at 3 p.m.
For the children, a number of games and activities will keep them busy, including train rides, face painting and a bounce house.
Corn hole tournament registration begins at noon, and play begins at 12:30 p.m. with cash prizes.
“It’s hard to believe this is our 8th year to sponsor Chilifest,” Lorie Neal, IOM, Executive Director of the Gallia County Chamber of Commerce commented. “What a great opportunity to enjoy delicious chili, prepared by cooks who love this truly special food, tasting so good on a cool October day. And cool weather is promised for our event on Saturday.
We have experienced and talented cooks preparing the chili this year in the Gallipolis City Park, and we anticipate a great crowd who will bring their ravenous appetite for chili with them,” added Neal.
