The sun made an appearance Wednesday as a farewell to winter and introduction to spring. Spring brings increasing daylight, warming temperatures and the rebirth of flora and fauna, like the lovely daffodils pictured on the lawn of a First Ave. home. The word equinox is derived from the Latin words meaning “equal night”. Daylight and dark are approximately equal at this time, and the sun rises and sets due east and west. Spring also brings to mind pastel eggs, rabbits and brightly colored clothing in recognition of Easter, like the pictured wooden Easter bunny located on a Second Ave. porch. The true meaning of the holiday, however, tells the tale of a much greater ‘rebirth’. It honors the story of Jesus dying on the cross and rising from the grave in order to provide salvation.
