A meth lab technician with the Middleport Police Department assisted the Gallipolis Police Department on Wednesday morning with the decontamination of a hotel room at the Regency Inn in Gallipolis. The remains of a meth lab were discovered in room 124 by hotel employees.
Wednesday’s meth lab discovery at the Regency Inn is the second meth lab-related incident reported in the municipality this year. An active meth lab was uncovered by police at a Neil Avenue residence on November 28.
GALLIPOLIS — The remains of a second possible meth lab discovered in the City of Gallipolis in less than a month were neutralized by meth lab technicians on Wednesday at a local motel.
According to the Gallipolis Police Department, the remains of a meth lab were discovered inside room 124 at the Regency Inn, located at 151 Upper River Road, on the morning of December 19.
Reportedly, motel employees who had entered room 124 in an attempt to clean the room found that it had been damaged by a small fire.
The employees contacted the police department, and the responding officer found plastic pop bottles and three clear plastic cups with a blue liquid in them located inside the room.
The officer secured Room 124, as well as the rooms on each side of the contaminated room, and contacted a meth lab cleanup crew.
Meth lab technicians from the Middleport Police Department responded to the scene to decontaminate the room, and the Gallipolis Fire Department was also called to the scene as a precaution.
According to an official with the police department, investigators have a “person of interest” wanted for questioning in this case. That person’s name has not been released and this case remains under investigation.
A first meth lab was discovered inside the municipality on November 28 after officers arrived at a Neil Avenue residence attempting to serve an arrest warrant.
After entering the household, the officers discovered an active meth lab inside the home.
Arrested at the scene were Trentin Caldwell, 21, and Ravyn Barr, 26, both of Gallipolis. Both subjects have been charged with the illegal assembly or possession of chemicals for the manufacture of drugs.
