Randy Brown from the AEP Mountaineer Plant was the guest speaker at this week's meeting of the Gallipolis Rotary Club. Club member, Kevin Dennis, introduced our program speaker for the day, who spoke to the club about the impact of regulations on Ohio electric rates. We had to fore-go a prepared PowerPoint due to a glitch with the misbehaving projector, but Randy clearly explained the current setting in Ohio and West Virginia.

The current political environment is not favorable to coal generation and could result in electric rates doubling or even tripling in the next few years. The lack of a projector did not diminish the quality of today’s presentation and club members enjoyed the opportunity to ask a number of questions concerning renewable energy, fossil fuel generation hearing the pros and cons of our current policies. Thank you, Randy and Kevin, for today’s interesting program.

President Shirley Doss opened the meeting of the Gallipolis Rotary Club and the invocation was given by Matt Willis. The President covered the schedule for the next few weeks. The meeting next week is very important to the club’s future and President-Elect Jodie McCalla will be presenting data from the new board’s strategic planning sessions. Members will be asked to vote their preference for any upcoming changes in meeting time and place. Be sure to be on hand Tuesday morning.

Fellowship—Gordon Amsbary offered his own welcome to everyone in the club fellowship segment of the meeting. Gordon covered the usual historical trivia and provided some kind words by Mother Teresa. Today is Buzzard Day! Under our Happy Bucks today, member Heather Crum bought a buck as Miss Congeniality in the recent Miss West Virginia Pageant! Congratulations, Heather. Jim Morrison offered up a Happy Buck in honor of his granddaughters he was visiting last week. Gordo fined member Kevin Dennis for his recent pictures in the paper and concluded Fellowship with a few words of wisdom.

Split-The-Pot—Jim Morrison ran the STP for today selling a bunch of tickets and raising the small pot to $7.00. Jim asked our guest speaker, Randy Brown, to draw today’s winning ticket which was held by Paul Koch! Paul drew carefully for the goal of winning the large pot of $131.00 only to pull the Seven of Diamonds. Paul assessed the Foundation Fine against anyone who ‘did not buy anything from the Boy Scouts this past weekend at the French 500 Flea Market!

Have a great week!
