GALLIPOLIS — A Gallia County man arrested after meth lab ingredients were discovered at his residence in the City of Gallipolis last month was recently charged in the Gallia County Common Pleas Court.

Trentin N. Caldwell, 21, Gallipolis, pleaded not guilty last week to the illegal assembly or possession of chemicals for the manufacture of drugs, a second degree felony, and the unlawful possession of a dangerous ordinance, a fifth degree felony.

Caldwell was initially charged in the Gallipolis Municipal Court on November 29 with the illegal possession of chemicals, and, following a preliminary hearing, this case was bound over to the Common Pleas Court of Gallia County where it was heard by a grand jury.

According to the original complaint filed with the municipal court by an officer with the Gallipolis Police Department, Caldwell was arrested, along with Ravyn Barr, 26, on November 28 after officers arrived at their residence at approximately 11 p.m. to serve a bench warrant on Caldwell for a failing to appear on a charge of carrying a concealed weapon.

While at the residence located at 29 1/2 Neil Avenue, officers reportedly observed hypodermic needles and drug paraphernalia lying on the living room table. Officers then obtained permission from Barr to search the house and subsequently located a book bag in the closet that contained items commonly used to manufacture methamphetamine, including drain clog remover, lithium batteries, Sudafed packs, starting fluid, a box of cold packs and coffee filters.

Following the discovery, a team of officers with the Gallia County Sheriff’s Office and Middleport Police Department, along with members of the Gallipolis Fire Department, responded to the scene to aid in the cleanup of the possible lab.

During last week’s hearing, Caldwell’s bond was set at $25,000, 10 percent with an additional $1,500, 10 percent bond.

He was ordered to have no contact with Barr or with the residence on Neil Avenue and was further ordered to reside with his parents in Vinton.

A plea agreement can be filed in this case by March 29 and a jury trial has been scheduled for April 30.

He later posted bond for his release from the Gallia County Jail.

Following her arrest, Barr also made an initial appearance in the Gallipolis Municipal Court on November 29 and was charged with the illegal possession of chemicals for the manufacture of drugs.

The defendant later waived her right to a preliminary hearing in this matter and the case was subsequently bound over to the common pleas court.

According to the court’s online docket, an indictment against Barr was filed on December 13 along with a warrant for her arrest.
