GALLIPOLIS – The Gallia County 911 Communications Center will be rededicated this spring to honor past 911 Director Steve Wilson.

During a regular meeting this month, the Gallia County Board of Commissioners unanimously voted to rename the communications center as the Stephen L. Wilson 911 Communications Center.

The 911 Center was originally dedicated on December 4, 1997, and Wilson was hired by the Gallia County Commissioners as the 911 Director on September 1, 1997, and held that position until his passing on November 4, 2009.

The commission noted that Wilson was instrumental in the development of Gallia County’s 911 system. He was recognized locally by law enforcement and fire departments as one of the most knowledge persons in the state in regard to all facets of emergency response communications systems.

According to the commissioners, Wilson and the Gallia County 911 system have been recognized statewide as a model for other emergency communications centers as many other counties and cities have sent representatives to view how Wilson set up and operated the Gallia County 911 system in order to structure their systems in a similar way.

The commission will hold an official rededication ceremony during National Public Safety Telecommunicators’ Week in April 2013.
