RIO GRANDE — The Vollborn Farm in Rio Grande has named the Business of the Month for June by the Gallia County Chamber of Commerce.

The Vollborn Farm is a beef cattle and hog operation. On the farm are 140 head of beef cows. Pre-conditioned feeder calves are typically sold in group lots, to be shipped outside Gallia County.

A small farrow, to finish the hog operation, focuses on local marketing, with the majority of hogs sold locally for hog roast events or for home freezers. In addition, free delivery is offered to R&C Packing and other local shops.

Ed Vollborn is associated with Vollborn Farm, which is operated on a day-to-day basis by his brother, Ray Vollborn. In 2000, Ed retired from OSU Extension Service in Gallia County. He is a board member of the Gallia County Agricultural Center Inc., which operates the C.H. McKenzie Ag Center, just east of the Gallia County Fairgrounds. He also serves on the advisory board for Peoples Bank in its MGM Management area of Gallia, Meigs and Mason counties.
