CENTENARY— A Bidwell man was seriously injured after being shot in the face with a shotgun early Saturday morning inside an Ohio 141 residence.
Cory Armstrong was reportedly shot in the jaw area of his face at approximately 2:15 a.m. on Saturday, according to Gallia County 9-1-1. Gallia County EMS responded to the Green Township residence shortly after and transported Armstrong to Holzer Medical Center. He was then flown to Grant Medical Center in Columbus via Healthnet.
Following the shooting, Gallia County sheriff’s deputies responded to the scene where the alleged shooter was identified as 18-year-old Leland C. Winston.
Deputies then initiated a search for Winston, picking him up at the Twin Rivers Marina in Kanauga shortly after 5 a.m. He was arrested and housed in the Gallia County Jail.
Winston was arraigned in Gallipolis Municipal Court early Monday morning on a charge of felonious assault. No plea was entered during the arraignment and his bond was set at $200,000 ten percent secured. He was further ordered not to be within 100 yards of Armstrong.
A relative of Armstrong indicated that the incident came about following a dispute that occurred between the two over a female.
A preliminary hearing on this matter is scheduled for July 7 at 10 a.m.
