GALLIPOLIS — A jury convicted a Vinton man of domestic violence following a trial last week in Gallia County Common Pleas Court.
Jeremy Nichols, 32, was charged with knowingly causing or attempting to cause physical harm to a female family or household member on Nov. 15, 2008. Jurors found him guilty in the manner and form that he was charged. He had been previously convicted of a domestic violence offense in a 2008 Gallipolis Municipal Court case.
During a sentencing hearing following the trial, Common Pleas Court Judge D. Dean Evans sentenced Nichols to 18 months in the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Corrections.
Other cases recently resolved include:
• Russell E. Mosley, 25, Patriot, was sentenced to 11 months in the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Corrections after he pled guilty to one count of theft in a 2007 case. His sentence is to be served consecutively with any sentence imposed in a Lewis County, Ky., court case.
• Nicholas J. Pelfrey, 33, Reedsville, was sentenced to 24 months of community control after he pled guilty to one count of tampering with evidence for providing a false urine screen to a TASC officer in July 2008.
He was further ordered to perform 500 hours of community service with all but 80 hours stayed, an evaluation by Spectrum Outreach Services, register with Ohio Employment Services, and pay costs of the prosecution for judgment rendered.
• Margaret A. Howell, 39, Gallipolis, was sentenced to 24 months of community control after pleading guilty to one count each of forgery and identity fraud for writing checks on the account of Margaret Rollins and obtaining personal identifying information of Sherry Smith.
Howell was further ordered to pay $2,049 restitution to Rollins along with costs of the prosecution for judgment rendered, perform 500 hours of community service with all but 60 hours stayed, and register with Ohio Employment Services.
• Steven E. Sheets, 28, Bidwell, was sentenced to 24 months of community control after he pled guilty to one count of receiving stolen property regarding a check.
He was further ordered to perform 500 hours of community control with all but 40 hours stayed, register with Ohio Employment Services, and pay costs of the prosecution for judgment rendered.
• Jessica Clark, 22, Point Pleasant, W.Va., was sentenced to 24 months of community after she pled guilty to one count of theft for depriving Wal-Mart of a computer, dog food, and miscellaneous tools valued at more than $500, but less than $5,000.
Clark was further ordered to perform 500 hours of community service with all but 40 hours stayed, register with Ohio Employment Services, obtain her GED, and pay costs of the prosecution for judgment rendered.
