GLOUSTER — The Southern Tornadoes (5-3, 2-1 TVC Hocking) face off against the Trimble Tomcats (4-4, 3-0 TVC Hocking) in a matchup that could determine the TVC Hocking title.

Southern has not beaten Trimble since 1973 when Trimble was known as Glouster High School. Trimble holds the all-time series 23-4.

Southern is coming off a big 16-13 victory over Waterford last week. In the victory, Greg Jenkins had both touchdowns and Michael Manuel added a field goal and an extra point.

Southern will be looking to stop TVC Hocking rushing leader Tyler Dyla, who has already srpassed the 1,000 yard mark on the season.

On the season, Southern in putting up 23.1 points per game, and allowing 2.1 points per game. Trimble is scoring 24.9 points per game and allowing only 15.1.

All three of Southern’s league contests this season have been close. Southern had to play three overtimes before beating Federal Hocking, the Tornadoes lost on a last minute play against Miller, and defeated Waterford on a last minute drive.

Trimble’s three TVC Hocking wins have all been by at least 21 points. Trimble beat Eastern 28-7, Waterford 50-0, and Federal Hocking 31-0.

On the season, Southern’s defense has allowed 1,478 yards, the fewest in the TVC Hocking. Trimble’s offense has put up the second most yards of offense in the TVC Hocking this season with 2,179.

Since the contest became a league matchup in 1992, Trimble is 17-0 against the Tornadoes outscoring them 741-160. All-time, Trimble has outscored Southern 947-281.

Trimble has set two school records against the Tornadoes. The largest margin of victory came in 2004 by a score of 66-0. Also, the most points scored in one game was in 2003 when the Tomcats put up 77 points against the Tornadoes.

The Tomcats are the defending TVC Hocking Champs.

If the Tomcats win they eliminate everyone else from the title. If Southern were to win, the title would come down to week 10 and could still go to Trimble or Southern. Southern would need to win out for the title.

Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. Friday evening at Trimble High School.
