GALLIPOLIS — Gallia County Commissioners received a notice of violation from the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency regarding the Meadowlook Subdivision Sewer Plant during the regular meeting on Thursday.
Violations were issued for the months of April through June 2009. This is not the first time the subdivision has been issued violations, leading the county to perform I&I repairs in 2008. The county administrator said the repairs seem to have worked, but heavy rains during the spring and early summer months exacerbated the system during those months. The plant had been scheduled for elimination with the Green Sewer Phase II project.
The notice of violation requires a response outlining the causes of the violations and a description of actions taken or proposed to prevent additional violations. The notice was passed on to the county’s sewer operator, who is to draft the response.
The silver lining is that if the OEPA issues findings and orders for Meadowlook, it will help the county obtain grant funding to resolve the problem.
In other action, commissioners:
• Vacated a portion of Oliver R Road in Addison Township following a hearing for the road petition, to which Gallia County Engineer Brett Boothe was in agreement. No objections to vacatiing the road were raised during the hearing.
The commission viewed the road during last week’s meeting. All of the vacated portion of the road will now become the taxable property of the adjacent property owners.
• Approved the promotion of Gallia County Department of Job and Family Services employee Pam Williams to Income Maintenance Worker 2 position effective Oct. 26, pursuant to the union agreement. She will fill a position vacated by a recent retiree.
According to the animal shelter report for the week ending Oct. 12, one dog was adopted, two were reclaimed, seven were euthanized, three died of natural causes and 16 were rescued.
