The event, which is sponsored by the Point Pleasant River Museum, is slated for 6 p.m. Friday, April 24.
According to Ruth Fout of the river museum, this year’s event is expected to be bigger than last year.
“Each year has increased. We had 125 people last year, 85 people the first year and are planning for at least 150 people this year,” Fout said.
She also encouraged others to get their tickets early, as there is a limited number.
Entertainment for the event will be stand-up comedian Charlie Weiner. According to a news release, Weiner is well known for his high energy, fast-paced and hilarious show. In addition, Frank Boles and the High Country Band are set to play for the dance, which is slated for 8:45 p.m. Soft shoes are required for the dance.
The menu for the evening will consist of tenderloin, baked potato, broccoli casserole, salad, roll, coffee or tea and the choice of homemade cherry, apple, chocolate cream or coconut cream pie. Door prizes also will be given during the event. In addition, there will be a drawing for a Point Pleasant Kanawha riverboat picture.
Fout described Shanty Boat Night as a way to simply have a good time.
“(Shanty Boat Night) is just a fun event even if you don’t dance. People have fun watching others dance,” she said. “Hopefully people will come to not only enjoy Shanty Boat Night, but also to see the river museum and our new aquarium.”
Tickets include the cost of the meal, entertainment and dance. Dance only tickets also are available for purchase. According to Fout, tickets should be purchased no later than April 22.
