GALLIPOLIS — Two area residents recently pled guilty to the same offense in Gallia County Common Pleas Court, however, while one netted a probation sentence, the other was sentenced to prison time.

Amber Mintz, 19, 658 Fourth Ave., Gallipolis, was sentenced to 17 months in prison after she pled guilty to one count of attempted illegal conveyance of drugs onto a detention facility, a lesser offense then conveyance of drugs onto a detention facility for which she was initially charged regarding an unspecified amount of marijuana.

She was further ordered to pay costs of the prosecution for judgment rendered.

Malachi J. Sheets, 22, 3176 Boggs Road, Patriot, was sentenced to 24 months of community control after he pled guilty to one count of attempted illegal conveyance of drugs onto a detention facility, a lesser offense then conveyance of drugs onto a detention facility for which he was initially charged regarding an unspecified amount of marijuana.

He was further ordered to successfully complete SEPTA, an evaluation by Spectrum Outreach Services, register with Ohio Employment Services, and pay costs of the prosecution for judgment rendered.

Neither defendant have prior felony charges on record in common pleas court, though both have pled to prior misdemeanor offenses in Gallipolis Municipal Court. However, more charges have been filed against Mintz than Sheets and she was on still probation through GMC at the time of sentencing in this case, while Sheets was not.

He pled not guilty to the charges and was released on his own recognizance under a $25,000 bond with an additional bond set at $1,000 ten percent secured.

His jury trial is scheduled for Dec. 15 at 9 a.m.
