GALLIPOLIS — Bookworms and weekend deal-seekers are encouraged to drop by Bossard Memorial Library on Saturday during its book and inventory surplus sale.

Library Director Debbie Saunders said the annual fundraising event will feature plenty of good reads — and listens — as well as office equipment no longer in use at Bossard.

“A popular area at the library is our audio books section,” she said. “Due to more use of CDs, we’re phasing out our audio books on cassette, so in this sale you’ll see quite a bit of audio book cassettes, even some on CD. You’ll also see some paperbacks, fiction, non-fiction, a really good variety.”

Bossard Library is dipping into its storage area to fill out the inventory surplus sale, which features office furniture, computers and even some landscape stones and paver bricks.

Saunders said the inventory surplus sale will be conducted by silent bid. Residents will be allowed to place bids from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday.

The top bidders will then be notified and will have to pick up the items between 3 and 4 p.m. Saturday.

Payment must be made at the time the item is picked up and must be in cash or a cashier’s check.

Saunders said all proceeds from the book sale go to the Friends of the Library, a group of patrons that provides a great deal of financial and volunteer support to Bossard Memorial Library.

Historically, the book sale has always been an important fundraiser, said Saunders, but has become even more vital due to the recent state budget cuts that affected libraries all across Ohio.

“We used to do quite a bit of co-sponsorship with the Friends, but with the budget cuts we’ve experienced the Friends have taken on more of the special events the library does,” she said.

One of the events the Friends of the Library sponsors is the annual Boo Bash. This year’s Bash is scheduled for 1 p.m on Saturday, Oct. 24, at the library.

Kids are invited to come in costume and will each receive a treat bag. The Bash also features a magic show. Saunders said a prize will be awarded for the best costume.

There is no admission fee for the Boo Bash.
