GALLIPOLIS — Gallia County Sheriff Joe Browning met with the Gallia County Commission Thursday to discuss the purchase of three new police cruisers.
Browning submitted a quote from Statewide Ford in Van Wert, Ohio, to the commission for three cruisers currently available at a reduced cost of $20,053 each, which he said would net a savings of approximately $7,000. He noted that the savings would fully equip one of the vehicles.
After speaking with the commission, Browning said he would contact the dealership to see if he could order the cruisers now and pay for them in January with his office’s 2010 appropriations.
Browning and the commission also discussed the proposed work release center, which they hope to at least set up temporarily if funding is available.
In other action, commissioners:
• Approved the Gallia County Plan for Expenditure of Child Family and Adult Community Protective Services between the Gallia County Department of Job and Services and Gallia County Children’s Services.
According to the plan, Gallia was allocated $62,448.48 from the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services out of a total of $15 million appropriated by the Ohio General Assembly for fiscal year 2010. The money is to be spent for income maintenance and child support purposes, which receives federal matching.
The two agencies plan to work together to develop a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for the Children’s Services Board to provide Child Protective Services and Adult Protective Services for individuals eligible for Title XX and Title XX TANF Transfer. The total MOU is to be no less than $31,224.24 and no more than $41,632.32 for the aforementioned services.
The plan is intended to maximize as much of the funding as possible for both agencies.
• Approved an addendum to the Hazard Mitigation Grant Program contract at the request of EMA Director Mike Null because the “total” line was left off the original. Null said approximately 29 counties will be filing for the grant funding and Gallia County has a good chance of receiving some monies.
The commission also discussed the EMA budget with Null and agreed to let the Guyan Township Fire Department use the EMA’s mobile command post for training purposes.
According to the animal shelter report for the week ending Nov. 9, two dogs were adopted, two were euthanized, one died, two were rescued and three are in foster care.
