GALLIPOLIS — Gallia County lost a good man Wednesday with the untimely death of 911 Director Stephen L. Wilson.

Wilson, 50, died late Wednesday afternoon after being transported to Ohio State University Medical Center for treatment of an undisclosed illness.

Wilson served as 911 director from the system’s inception in 1997 to the present. Prior to his tenure with 911, he worked for the City of Gallipolis as a police and fire dispatcher from 1978 to 1997.

Wilson was a 1977 graduate of Gallia Academy High School and earned a police science degree from Hocking College in 1978.

Wilson was the son of Hobart and Beverly Wilson, Jr. He also leaves behind a brother, Keith, and a sister, Brenda, and two nephews.

Arrangements are under the direction of Cremeens Funeral Chapel in Gallipolis.
