GALLIPOLIS — A suspect arrested in connection with the Nov. 14 armed robbery of the Dollar General Store in Gallipolis was charged with aggravated robbery in Gallia County Common Pleas Court and released on bond.

Zachary A. Halley, 22, Crown City, pled not guilty to that charge as well as an additional charge of breaking and entering in an unrelated offense.

The charge of aggravated robbery alleges that in attempting or committing a theft offense or in fleeing immediately after the attempt or offense, Halley did have a deadly weapon on or about his person or under his control. In this case the weapon was a knife.

The charge of breaking and entering alleges that on or about Oct. 14, Halley did knowingly, by force, stealth, or deception, trespass in a parts garage belonging to Clifford’s Auto Parts with purpose to commit therein a theft offense.

Halley has been released on his own recognizance under a $30,000 bond with an additional bond set at $1,500, 10 percent secured.

His jury trial is scheduled for 9 a.m. on April 26, 2010.

Police have also arrested suspects in the robberies of Long John Silvers last Friday and Pizza Plus on Sunday.

Jacey D. Mahan, 24, Gallipolis, and William J. Denny, II, 24, Gallipolis, have been arrested in connection with those hold-ups. They were recently arraigned in Gallipolis Municipal Court on charges of robbery and aggravated robbery, respectively, and placed under $500,000 10 percent secured bonds. Defense Attorney William Medley has been appointed as council for both suspects.

Preliminary hearings for each have been set for Dec. 9; Denny’s at 8 a.m. and Mahan’s at 8:15 a.m.

Eight armed robberies have occurred in Gallia County since Nov. 14 and two have occurred in Point Pleasant, W.Va., during the same time frame.
