GALLIPOLIS — Deputies with the Gallia County Sheriff’s Office discovered a methamphetamine lab late Monday evening at an Addison Township residence after responding to the scene regarding an unrelated incident.

At approximately 6 p.m. on Monday, deputies responded to a residence at 2730 Kemper Hollow Road. While conducting an investigation at the scene, the deputies discovered what they believed to be an active meth lab.

The on-scene law enforcement officials contacted deputies with the sheriff’s office trained in evaluating and dismantling clandestine labs.

Upon arrival, those deputies entered the residence wearing chemical suits and breathing apparatus to evaluate the lab and determined that the home contained a functioning meth lab that had completed its cycle.

The deputies dismantled the lab and it was later collected by a haz-mat disposal company.

This case is still under investigation by the sheriff’s office. The Gallia County Prosecutor’s Office is being consulted on potential charges.

Norman Shepherd, 36, Gallipolis, was arrested at the scene on unrelated warrants. No other suspects’ names have been released.

According to officials with the sheriff’s office, this is the first confirmed meth lab to be found in Gallia County in approximately two years. The Gallipolis Volunteer Fire Department and Gallia County EMS assisted at the scene.

Anyone with information about this case or any other criminal activity can leave information anonymously by calling the sheriff’s office tip-line at (740) 446-6555 or by visiting the sheriff’s office website at www.galliasheriff.org.
