RIO GRANDE — Construction has finally begun on the new Family Dollar coming to the village of Rio Grande. The project should be completed by the first of the year.

The location at the intersection of Ohio 325 and Ohio 588 has been cleared, leveled, surveyed and now the foundation is in the process of being laid.

“It’s going to be exciting for everyone here,” said Rio Grande Mayor Matt Easter. “Minor conveniences that everyone used to have to drive 10 to 15 miles for will now be available right here in the village.”

The 8,000-square foot store will be located next to the flashing traffic light at the corner of Ohio 588 and Ohio 325, featuring entrances and exits onto both state routes to alleviate traffic congestion, which was an important factor in the store’s decision to follow through with the project.

The store is within walking distance of the University of Rio Grande/Rio Grande Community College campus and will be a great convenience for Gallia residents from Patriot to Vinton.

“We’re glad the village is showing growth and expansion. We always welcome new business in Rio,” Easter said, adding that the village will also benefit from the revenue collected at the store, which he hopes will promote additional growth in Rio Grande.
