Bert Edward McGuire, 91, Vinton, Ohio, passed away on Saturday, July 28, 2012, at the Arbors at Gallipolis. Bert was born on March 9, 1921, in Gallia County, son of the late Perry and Eliza Folden McGuire. He was a farmer and avid gardener, loving to raise a large garden. On October 27, 1984, he was awarded from the O.O. McIntyre Park District the Great Pumpkin Award for having grown the largest pumpkin.
Bert was married to Rozella Mae Myers McGuire, and she preceded him in death, along with sons, Bert, Jr., in infancy and Charles McGuire; and a grandson, Richie McGuire. He was also preceded in death by his sisters, Pearl, Emma and Rosie; and his brothers, Jesse, John, Luther, Hollis and Samuel.
He is survived by his children, Eugene (Helen) McGuire, Chester (Judy) McGuire, William (Roberta) McGuire and Linda Miller, all of Gallipolis, Janet (Beldon) Storms of Vinton, Tim (Dineena) Trout of South Point and Marie (Vernon) Hall of Columbus.
Many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren survive, as well as many nieces and nephews. Special friends are Alice Gothard, Garnet and Bill Chapman of Gallipolis.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, August 1, 2012, at Willis Funeral Home, with Jane Ann Miller officiating. Burial will follow in the Patriot Cemetery. Friends may call from noon until the time of services on Wednesday.
