PROCTORVILLE, Ohio — Offense was at a premium.
The River Valley softball team allowed a run in the first and produced only one of the seven hits Wednesday night during a tough-luck 1-0 setback to host Fairland in an Ohio Valley Conference matchup in Lawrence County.
The Lady Raiders (6-13, 3-4 OVC) started well as the guests got a first inning single and stolen base from Amanda Eddy — who was ultimately stranded at second. Libby Leach also reached on a walk in the fourth, which accounted for both of River Valley’s baserunners on the night.
The Lady Dragons (7-10, 4-5) — who has six hits in the triumph — produced the only score of the night in the first inning after Ellen Hinshaw delivered a two-out home run over the left field wall.
FHS stranded three runners on base and River Valley left two on the bags. Neither team committed an error in the contest.
Chandler Fulks was the winning pitcher of record after allowing just one walk over seven innings while striking out 14. Ashley Gilmore suffered the setback after surrendering one walk over six frames while fanning two.
Hinshaw led the hosts with two hits, followed by Caitlin Stone, Tiffany Christian, Olivia Adkins and Curry with a safety apiece.
