RIO GRANDE, Ohio — The University of Rio Grande men’s soccer team returns to Evan E. Davis Field on Wednesday night to take on the Bluefield College Rams.
Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
The RedStorm (5-1-1 overall, 1-0-1 MSC) enter this match off of an physically and emotionally exhausting match against Lindsey Wilson that ended in a 1-1 draw on Saturday night.
Rio Grande, ranked No. 5 in the most recent NAIA coaches’ poll, netted a goal just over five minutes into the contest and held that advantage until Lindsey Wilson notched a goal of its own with just under six minutes remaining to tie the match up for good.
Senior midfielder Maximiliano Viera (Montevideo, Uruguay) scored the only goal for the RedStorm againt the rival Blue Raiders and continues to lead the team in both points (8) and goals (3).
Continuing to lead the passing attack for Rio Grande is freshman midfielder Callum Cobb (Aldershot, England) and senior defender Craig Davies (Wolverhampton, England), both of whom have three assists on their stat line this season.
Junior goalkeeper Jon Dodson (Tiffin, OH) has started all seven games for Rio Grande and has given up a total of seven goals while turning away 11 shots for a save percentage of .611.
Bluefield College (4-4 overall, 1-1 MSC) scored a 4-1 victory over Columbia International last Friday and is now riding a two-game win streak.
The Rams are led statistically by a 14-point performance from junior midfielder Jacob Mader, who has a team-leading five goals and four assists.
Senior goalkeeper Jefferson Watson has started all eight games for Bluefield this season and has saved 20 shots, while allowing 13 goals for a save percentage of .606.
This meeting is only the second time the two squads have met, with Rio Grande winning the first matchup last season.
