RedStorm women’s soccer to host Bluefield

RIO GRANDE, Ohio — The University of Rio Grande women’s soccer team will look to get back on the winning track Wednesday evening when they host the Rams of Bluefield College.
Kickoff is set for 5 p.m. at Evan E. Davis Field.
The RedStorm enter this contest off of a 6-0 road defeat to top-ranked Lindsey Wilson on Saturday evening.
Rio Grande started off strong and entered halftime with only 1-0 deficit, but the defending national champion Blue Raiders poured on five additional goals to close out the match.
The RedStorm was held without a shot in the first half and only one shot in the contest.
Rio Grande (4-4 overall, 1-1 MSC) is led offensively by freshman midfielder Laurel Amstutz (Yellow Springs, OH) with five goals and 10 total points. Sophomore forward Kasey Crow (Chillicothe, OH) and freshman defender Carrie Mathes (Springboro, OH) have each chipped in with four goals apiece.
Between the posts for the RedStorm, junior goal keeper Allison Keeney (Cincinnati, OH) has logged every minute so far this season and has accumulated a MSC-leading 52 saves.
Keeney also has allowed 31 goals for a save percentage of .627. She does have three shutouts to her credit.
Bluefield (5-2 overall, 0-2 MSC) notched a 2-0 win over Southern Virginia last Friday, but enter Wednesday’s contest still in search of their first conference win.
The Rams have seen tremendous play from senior goalkeeper Kayla Richardson thus far in the 2013 campaign. She’s allowed just 12 goals in seven games and has amassed 31 saves for a .721 save percentage.
The shutout of Southern Virginia was Richardson’s first on the season.
Offensively, Bluefield is led by freshman forward Whitney Browning’s 12 points off of six goals. Sophomore midfielder Jessica Newman has chipped in an impressive 10-point effort, comprised of three goals and four assists.
Rio Grande owns an all-time record of 4-1-1 against Bluefield.
