OHIO VALLEY — A family enterprise more than six decades old has made a business out of earning the loyalty and trust of the community. Once again, Fruth’s Pharmacy has been voted the best pharmacy in the Ohio Valley’s 2014 Readers’ Choice Awards.
From humble beginnings, Jack Fruth opened his first pharmacy in Point Pleasant in 1952. It is still a family business, but today the corporation has grown to 27 stores strong.
“We have been very successful for a family business in this economy because we haven’t lost family values,” company spokesperson Melanie Sherman said.
Sherman contributes the success of the stores in part to an emphasis on customer service.
“Most of our customers are on a first name basis with the employees — definitely with the pharmacists,” Sherman said.
The corporation is led by Lynne Fruth, the founder’s youngest daughter, who serves as president and chairman of the board — and who often quotes her father.
“My parents, Jack and Frances ‘Babs’ Fruth, founders of Fruth Pharmacy, always instilled in us [my siblings and I] the importance of serving the customer,” Lynne said. “We were taught to treat everyone with respect, and to ‘always do the right thing’. We are pleased to give back to the local community with our scholarship program, as well as support other community events throughout the year. We are honored that our customers chose us as Best Pharmacy.”
Each year, 25 area students benefit from scholarships established by Fruth Pharmacy and the Fruth family. Students can visit the website at www.fruthpharmacy.com for scholarship application information.
Fruth has four area locations — two in Gallipolis and one each in Point Pleasant and Pomeroy.
