GALLIPOLIS — Volunteers interested in participating in the 25th annual Ohio River Sweep should gather at the Public Use Area in the city of Gallipolis on Thursday.
The sweep will begin at 9 a.m. and will continue until 11 a.m. Volunteers will meet around the boat launch area of the public docks (Public Use Area) below city park. All volunteers must register, sign an agreement to participate, a release form, pick up bags and gloves and get assignments.
“We encourage anyone who wants to make a difference in the quality of the Ohio River to volunteer for River Sweep,” a statement released by Bev Dunkle and Brett Bostic at the City of Gallipolis reads. “River Sweep is an excellent opportunity for citizens to play an active role in improving the environment.”
Those individuals who volunteer will receive a free T-shirt for their efforts. The 2o14 River Sweep poster was designed by Katie Long, a 12th grade student from Ripley High School, Ripley, W.Va. The T-shirt was designed by Jessica Dunham, a 12th grade student at Randall Cooper High School in Florence, Ky.
