Jackson County will receive a $300,000 Neighborhood Revitalization grant for improvements to multiple facilities, streets, sidewalks, water, parks and recreation facilities, and residential rehabilitation activities in the city of Wellston. The county will also receive a $166,500 Critical Infrastructure grant for improvements to three bridges on Centerpoint Road.

The projects will benefit 2,017 residents. The grants are part of the Ohio Development Services Agency’s awarding of 23 communities grants to assist with public facility, street, bridge and neighborhood improvements. The grants total more than $8 million and will generate more than $12.7 million in additional project funds.

In the southeast region, three counties received funding totaling $949,800. In addition to the Jackson County grants, Gallia County will receive an $183,300 Critical Infrastructure grant to replace three bridges in Guyan Township. The project will benefit 400 residents. And Vinton County will receive a $300,000 Neighborhood Revitalization grant to help build a firehouse and two community shelters as well as put up road signs in Richland and Jackson townships. The project will benefit 4,744 residents.

“The state is committed to investing in neighborhoods and business districts to improve the quality of life in a community and position it for growth,” David Goodman, director of the Ohio Development Services Agency, said.

The Critical Infrastructure and Neighborhood Revitalization programs are competitive grants within the Community Development Block Grant program. Projects funded through these programs improve public facilities and infrastructure as well as rehabilitate buildings in a community’s central business district.
