PATRIOT — Gallia County Local Schools Board of Education held its first organizational meeting at the new location in Southwestern Elementary School, Patriot, earlier this week.
Personnel matters were the main focus, with the board voting to approve new substitute bus drivers, substitute cooks, substitute maintenance staff, and substitute teachers.
Interim superintendent Wendy Halley called the meeting to order. Also attending were board members Melvin Carter, Terry Halley, Stephanie Mulford, Billy Swain, and Scott Williamson.
Under new business, the board voted to approve a contract with Need-a-Lift Transportation. This service provides homeless students with a means of traveling to school for the 2013-2014 school year. The board also voted to hold an executive session, the purpose of which was to consider the employment of an unnamed public employee, and to prepare for bargaining sessions or negotiations regarding terms and conditions under which public employees are hired.
In business relating to personnel matters, the board voted to accept the resignation of Miranda Johnson, a substitute bus driver for the district. The board also voted to employ the following individuals as substitute bus drivers for the district: Brian Eblin; Gregory Mayes; Sandra Mayes; Mark Sheets. The board also voted to employ Brad Gillenwater as a substitute maintenance person for the 2013-2014 school year, and the following individuals as substitute teachers: Mary Farley; Amber Miller; Amanda Mullins; Mellayne Stout. Robert Helmes, maintenance worker, was granted a contract in the school district for one year.
Gallia County Local Schools will hold its next regular board meeting at 7 p.m. on Monday, January 27 at Southwestern Elementary School, 4836 State Route 325, Patriot, Ohio 45658.
