The Portsmouth Police Department has released a photo taken from a surveillance camera of a man they say may have stolen a car as it was parked in front of a business around noon on Wednesday.

Portsmouth Police Operations Captain Lynn Brewer said Sheryl Fannin, of Minford, told police she parked her vehicle in front of a local business located in the 900 block of 11th Street to drop some items off. Fannin said when she returned, her car had been stolen. The vehicle is described as a Maroon 2006 Cadillac SRX.

In addition to the car, there were personal items in the vehicle, including her purse and a Glock handgun.

Video footage was obtained by police from two local businesses that show images of the man they are describing as the suspect. Police are asking anyone who knows the identity of the suspect to call the Portsmouth Police Department Detective Division at 740-354-1600 or the Police Dispatch Center at 740-353-4101. All calls will be kept confidential.
