A Highland County crash claimed the life of a Springfield man Monday morning.

According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, the crash occurred on U.S. 62 near milepost 18 in Highland County at 9:55 a.m. when a 1986 Ford flatbed low truck, driven by Michael Stone of Stout, Ohio, was northbound and traveled left of center, striking a 2008 Suzuki SXT driven by Ronald Bowman, 51, of Springfield, Ohio, which was southbound. The collision was head-on, according to the patrol.

Bowman sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene by the Highland County coroner. The patrol said in a press release that although the crash investigation is still pending, alcohol and drugs do not appear to be a factor in the crash.

Stone’s condition was not immediately known.
