RIO GRANDE — Three Gallia County men have been indicted on a combined 30 felony charges of sexual assault on two juvenile girls.
Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine, in conjunction with Rio Grande Police Chief Chris Dodson and Gallia County Prosecutor Jeff Adkins, said the three are accused of sexually assaulting the girls, whose names and ages were not revealed to protect their identity, on multiple occasions over the course of several days in June.
Arrested were Michael Umbel, 41, of Rio Grande; Dustin Jones, 32, of Bidwell; and Nicholas Martin, 27, of Rio Grande.
Umbel is charged with 11 counts of unlawful sexual conduct with a minor or corruption of a minor and two counts of sexual battery.
Jones is charged with 12 counts of unlawful sexual conduct with a minor or corruption of a minor and two counts of sexual battery.
Martin is charged with two counts of unlawful sexual conduct with a minor or corruption of a minor and one count of sexual battery.
The three were arrested late last week. The charges follow a joint investigation by the Attorney General’s Crimes Against Children Unit and the Rio Grande Police Department.
The case is being prosecuted by the Gallia County Prosecutor’s Office.
“I would like to thank the Rio Police Department and the Ohio Attorney General’s Office Crimes Against Children Unit for their hard work during the investigation of this matter,” Adkins said. “We intend to seek justice for the two children affected by these defendants’ actions.”
“This has been an in-depth investigation for our department leading up to the indictments of three men,” said Rio Grande Police Chief Chris Dodson. “Rio (Grande) PD along with (Ohio) BCI has put in numerous hours due to the serious nature of this investigation. Protecting our youth is a priority in law enforcement that is never taken lightly. Upon securing indictments, Rio Grande PD along with assistance from Gallia County Sheriff’s Office were able to pick up all three suspects without incident.”
Umbel, Jones and Martin are currently in custody at the Gallia County Jail.
