GALLIPOLIS — Gallipolis River Recreation Festival has traditionally held a pageant for young Gallia women seeking to prove their mettle and talents while also earning a scholarship through the festivities.

This year, the pageant will be held at Bossard Memorial Library for both festival queen and junior miss categories. Doors open at 5:30 p.m., Sunday, July 2. The junior miss competition will begin at 6 p.m. and is followed by the queen scholarship pageant. Admission is free and donations to the pageant are also being accepted.

Following are the competitors for the queen’s competition.

Abby Vansickle, Abby is the daughter of Dale and Danella Newberry, of Gallipolis. Abby attends Gallia Academy High School where she is a varsity cheerleader, a member of key club, the track team, Madrigals and symphonic choir, she participated in solo and ensemble contest receiving a superior rating. She enjoys being in the musical cast and the Madrigal variety show. Abby volunteers her time in the Gallipolis Relay for Life campaign, collecting school supplies for needy students, collecting canned food for food baskets, helping with the Mason County Special Olympics, painting snow plows for the county garage, Summer lunch program volunteer for students, singing at local nursing homes, and helping at church during Christmas time for kids in needs. She also spends with her 4-H club helping to get the fair ready. In the community, she attends Grace United Methodist Church, she holds the title of Treasurer in her 4-H club, she is a member of Junior Leaders, Junior Fair board and Sheep Committee. Abby plans to attend college majoring in Marine Biology while participating in track. She is sponsored by Dale and Danella Newberry.

Adrianna Powell, Adrianna is the daughter of Jeremy and Deanna Powell, of Bidwell. Adrianna attends River Valley High School where she is a member of the French club, art club, Beta club, and Leo Club. She is on the Student Council and participates in the Talented and Gifted program. Adrianna volunteers her time by helping during Christmas with making blankets, along with donating and wrapping presents for needy families. She enjoys spending time at assisted living facilities painting nails for the elderly and she helps with the River Valley High School Haunted Hallway event. In the community, she is a 4-H member, attends Country Side Baptist Church, and participates in dance at the Gallia Meigs Performing Arts. Adrianna plans to attend The University of Rio Grande majoring in Allied Health obtaining a degree in Diagnostic Medical Sonography. She is sponsored by Larry Keller, owner of Dixon Distribution.

Ashley Morris, Ashley is the daughter of Jim and Angel Morris, of Vinton. Ashley attends River Valley High School where she is a junior and is a member of the drama club, Beta club, French club, FFA, and choir. She has also been a cheerleader and participated in track & field. Ashley volunteers her time at the Bob Evans Farm Festival, Christmas family donations, can food drives, helping at the Gallipolis Hoop project and Right to Read week at Vinton Elementary. In the community, she helps with youth cheer camps, Senior night activities, Copacabana where she has helped by being a server and acted in the dinner show, and she is on the Gallipolis Junior Bowling League. Ashley plans to attend Shawnee State University Majoring in Radiology. She is sponsored by Skyline Bowling Center.

Jaden is the daughter of Chris and Norma Ellcessor and Robert Bradley, of Gallipolis. Jaden attends Gallia Academy High School. Her school activities have included; softball, volleyball, and track. She enjoys volunteering in numerous charity runs. In the community, she babysits and attends several fairs and festivals helping with her sister. Jaden plans to attend college but is still deciding on a major. She is sponsored by Chris and Norma Ellcessor.

Nickole is the daughter of Loren Jr and Cindy Beaver, of Crown City. Nickole attends South Gallia High School where she is a member of National Beta Club, National Honor Society, scholar athlete, FCCLA, and the float committee. She is on the varsity cheerleading squad, she is the Leo club treasurer, and was the freshman class attendant. Nickole volunteers her time to help with the South Gallia Youth cheer camps, pennies for patients, glow run, toasty toes, taking to the streets, Leo gift wrapping, American Red Cross Blood Drive, and Southwestern Fall Carnival. In the community, she is a member of Mt. Zion Youth Group, helps with the community Thanksgiving dinner, and various community parades. Nickole plans to attend Ohio University majoring in Speech Pathology. She is sponsored by C and L logging and excavating.

Samantha is the daughter of Chuck and Melissa Burris, of Vinton. Samantha attends the Ohio Valley Christian School. Her activities at Ohio Valley Christian School include; participating in History Day, State History Day, and softball. Prior to Ohio Valley Christian School she attended River Valley High School where she was a member of Beta club, student Council, and Fellow Christian Athletes along with being elected the Sophomore Homecoming Attendant. Samantha volunteers her time by participating in painting fundraisers with softball, volunteering in the survivor tent with Holzer Center for Care, O.O. McIntyre park for a servathon, helping to get the park ready for Summer, and attending the National Beta Club Convention. In the community, she has helped with COPA and the local Law Enforcement Appreciation Dinner. Samantha plans to attend college and major in Early Childhood Education. She is sponsored by Chuck and Melissa Burris.

The following names are young ladies competing in the junior miss competition.

Allison is the daughter of Becky and Chester Hess. She will be attending River Valley Middle School this fall as a seventh grader. Allison participates in band, choir, and basketball. She is a leader of Fellowship of Christian Athletes. She is the Head of her sixth grade class anti bullying committee and attends church.

Carolina is the daughter of Anthony and Heather Sola. She will be attending Gallia Academy Middle School this fall as a sixth grader. Carolina loves acting in plays with the French Art Colony. She likes to sing, play basketball and softball, and is in baton.

Grace is the daughter of Lori and Matt Cremeans. She will be attending River Valley Middle School this fall as a sixth grader. Grace participates in 4-H and is in For his Glory 4-H club she was elected as the club health officer. She attends Country Side Baptist Church, Grace enjoys art, singing, being in local plays, completing science experiments and swimming. She also plays on the River Valley Basketball Team and is a member of beta club.

Haeden is the daughter of Jeremy Kinder and Amanda Gregory. She will be attending River Valley Middle School this fall as an eighth grader. Haeden loves to swim and sing. She is in her school’s Beta Club.

Haley is the daughter of Katie Canaday. She will attend Gallia Academy Middle School as a sixth grader in the fall. Haley loves 4-H and working with her animals. She enjoys several activities including; baton, art, reading, singing, cooking, church, writing, and spending time with her twin brothers and twin cousins.

Kimberly is the daughter of Rebecca Robinson. She will be attending River Valley Middle School this fall as a sixth grader. Kimberly loves animals, she participates in church activities, enjoys cheerleading, tumbling, softball, reading, and making crafts. She is also in the beta club at her school.
