GALLIPOLIS — The Gallipolis Foundation is recognizing local organizations for their contributions to the Pool Improvement Committee and perpetuating the city pool as a community resource.

Due to financial issues, the future of the pool has been debated throughout this spring in preparation for the summer swim season. Several surrounding municipal pools have closed with Point Pleasant’s among them.

The Gallipolis City Pool Improvement Committee has been hard at work raising funds for the facility, and part of that is in thanks to several organizations. O’Dell Lumber and Regional Construction, Gallipolis Emblem Club #199, Gallipolis Retail Merchants, and Elks Lodge #107 all made donations.

A special donation was made in honor of Ann Sickels, the late school teacher who dedicated her life to educating young people.

The pool is offering more ways to beat the heat this summer; a Luau Pool Party featuring Disney’s Moana will be held Saturday June 24 at 5:30-9:30 p.m., tickets are available for purchase at the pool. The following Saturday from 6:30-9:30 p.m. the pool will be open for an adult swim for $4, lifeguards will be on duty.

With the warm weather in full swing attendance is up at the pool. Their hours are Monday through Saturday from noon – 5 p.m. and Sunday from 1-5 p.m.. Water Walkers still meet Monday through Friday from 5-6 p.m. for $1 (no lifeguard on duty). Water Aerobics meets on Monday and Wednesday from 6-7 p.m. and Saturday from 10-11 a.m. for $3.
