Fireworks are a hallmark of River Recreation Festival and America’s Independence Day.


GALLIPOLIS — As summer gets into full swing, the sky will soon be filled with colorful booms and showers of sparks as Independence Day and Gallipolis River Recreation will soon dominate City Park.

The Gallia County Chamber of Commerce has cobbled together its list of events for the coming holiday week with activities taking place over the weekend and into Monday’s July 3 and Tuesday’s July 4. Gallipolis River Recreation Festival Queen Scholarship Junior and Miss Pageants will be held July 2 at Bossard Memorial Library.

At noon on July 3, the opening ceremony of Gallipolis River Recreation will be held. From noon to 10 p.m., inflatables and bounce houses will be available for families to crawl through. Noon also marks the opening of concessions and an artisans market. From 1 to 5 p.m., kid zone will be open with its schedule coming soon. Gospel music will also be hosted on the amphitheater at the same time.

The Neal Family will start performances followed by the Towe’s, Southern Harmony, Victory River, Singing Shafers and the Rainey’s.

At 5 p.m., Little Miss and Mister Firecracker will be held on the side stage.

Contemporary Christian music will be held from 5:30 to 9 p.m. Ordinary People will play at 5:30 p.m. with Rodney Pike Church of God at 6:20 p.m. Vinton Baptist will take the stage at 7 p.m. River City Fellowship takes the stage at 7:40 p.m. and Fellowship of Faith follows at 8:20 p.m. The Ariel Opera House’s Summer Tuba Time will play at 7:30 p.m. in the park and the Gallipolis Junior Women’s Club Talent Show will be on the side stage at 8 p.m.

On July 4, Baby Tot Contest 9 a.m. Inflatables return from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Concessions and artisans will also be open again at 10 a.m. Kid zone will be open from 1 to 5 p.m. and the Friends of Gallia County’s Animals will hold a wiener dog race in the park at 5 p.m. Devin Henry will perform in the amphitheater at 5 p.m. and the 66th annual Gallipolis Rotary Mile will begin at 6:30 p.m. The Independence Day parade will begin its march down Second Avenue at 7 p.m.

Cee Cee Miller will perform in the amphitheater at 8 p.m. and Deep Creatures will perform at 9 p.m. The day’s fireworks will blast off across the Ohio River at 10 p.m. and Paul ‘Bub’ Williams will perform at the amphitheater at 10:30 p.m.
