GALLIPOLIS — Gallia County Commissioners held a public hearing for the name change of a road in Raccoon Township before finally approving the measure to rename part of Wayne Lane to Trail’s End Extension Thursday in the Gallia County Courthouse.
“We received the petition on Feb. 21 from the petitioner Don Wothe,” said Gallia Commissioner Harold Montgomery.
The Gallia County Auditor’s Office approved petition names on the list and a road viewing was scheduled March 9.
“We advertised this would be the public hearing to address this issue and I would entertain any comments from the floor,” said Montgomery.
“What started all this is when they built the new units (in the road’s region) behind (a local) church, I guess Wayne Lane at one time looped all the way around,” said Wothe. “There’s been discussion back and forth whether it was open on both ends. You can’t get to both ends on the same road. So when they had an alarm system that had gone off, since it’s got people living in a unit out there, squad (EMS) has gone out a couple times and what’s happening is there ending up on Cherry Ridge on the other end of Wayne Lane instead of down there on that extension. The name sort of throws them because everybody knew Wayne Lane as being the upper end off of Cherry Ridge.”
Wothe mentioned residents at Trail’s End Road had experienced UPS trucks searching for Wayne Lane and being misdirected because of GPS targeting being thrown off.
Commissioners would eventually approve the area north of Wayne Lane as Trail’s End Extension which would connect with Trail’s End Road.
