GALLIPOLIS, Ohio —A local art exhibit featuring one woman’s watercolor paintings is hoping to make a splash.

Barbara Dellegatti a native of Youngstown, Ohio and now a resident of Ona W.Va. has been an avid contributor to the French Art Colony in Gallipolis. She has shown in the annual art show in July for the past 10 years and has also juried shows there, however now, she has an exhibit that is all her own. “One Woman Watercolor Art Show” by award winning professional watercolor artist Dellegatti, will have an open reception for her exhibit Sunday from 1:30 p.m.- 3 p.m. Light refreshments will be served.

Dellegatti started drawing with she was 12 years old but did not start to experiment with oil painting until she was 32. Dellegatti stated she while nursing twins for 15 months she needed something to “occupy her time and something to do that was creative.”

She said she went to a vocational school to learn more about oil painting but did not have a good experience she says. Dellegatti wanted to learn more about realism and to learn more techniques with painting.

“I started watching television shows on BPS, like Bob Ross and other art shows which assisted me in learning to paint, otherwise, I am a self taught oil painter,” she said.

Dellegatti added she had wanted to learn water painting techniques and discovered her neighbor was a water color painter. This neighbor taught her to use the medium of paint she currently uses the most today.

For Dellegatti’s current exhibit she will be showing 34 of her newest watercolor paintings. Dellegatti stated, her favorite painting in the exhibit is a piece titled, “Blackcape Chickadee.” She uses collage techniques to compile several paintings of “Blackcape Chickadees” by cutting strips of these paintings and juxtaposing them “visually pleasing” way on top of the original painting.

Not only is Dellegatti an award winning artist but she also teaches painting classes and on Feb. 12 she will be teaching a watercolor course at the French Art Colony.

Delegatti said, “I love the Gallipolis area; it is a beautiful area and I always look forward to coming up to the French Art Colony.”

“One Woman Watercolor Art Show” will be available to view at the French Art Colony until Feb. 25.
