GALLIA COUNTY — The Gallia County Sheriff’s Office recovered property reportedly stolen from residences on Creek View Road Tuesday in the Patriot area and Vanzant Road in Cheshire Township last Friday in what the sheriff’s office believes are linked cases.
According to Gallia County Sheriff Joe Browning, the items collected from Vanzant Road consisted of a John Deere, a Kubota utility vehicle and two stolen cattle. Items discovered on Creek View Road consisted of another stolen tractor from the Patriot area and various tractor and farm implements.
“They were stolen with ear tags intact and all,” said Browning. “They had been (reported) stolen a couple of days prior.”
Detectives were following up on their investigation from the Cheshire Township case and found themselves following leads to a residence on Creek View Road, said the sheriff. There, the detectives located what they believed to be more stolen property where similar names were heard regarding persons of interest caught the ear of law enforcement. The cattle stolen were reportedly from the Creek View Road area which in part pulled detectives to the area.
While following up on the cattle lead, detectives started speaking with local residents and were told persons of interest had been bringing certain items to the Creek View Road area.
“So they started asking what all had been brought there and started cross-referencing that with our list of stolen materials and we find that all of these items that we saw have either been listed by serial number or in reports as stolen,” said Browning. “On Creek View, we had about $50,000 total in property that was recovered.”
Items were discovered from four separately reported thefts in Gallia, according to the sheriff.
Brynn Martin, 37, according to Browning, is a person of interest in the sheriff’s office ongoing investigation with regard to the thefts. Martin reportedly lives on Vanzant Road. The sheriff surmises it may have been possible the stolen property was being stored at the previously mentioned properties before being passed on to others.
The sheriff asks if the public has any information regarding the thefts or Martin to contact the sheriff’s office tip line at 740-446-6555. Martin reportedly has other warrants listed to his name regarding unrelated incidents.
