The West Virginia Marine Corps Coordinating Council (WVMCCC) and the Vietnam Veterans of America, Tri-State Chapter 949 (VVA) presented a plaque to American Electric Power, River Transportation at the Gallipolis City Park on Friday, June 23.

American Electric Power, River Transportation was a “Gold Sponsor” for the Military and Veterans Appreciation Picnic on June 3. The plaque was presented to Jill LaValley, human resources consultant and Clifford Leport, port captain of AEP River Transportation.

The event was a great success, due in large part, to the sponsors like AEP River Transportation.

Keith Sheets, Mike Plymale, Ron Adrian, Charlie Myers and Hollis Myers from Gallipolis also showed off their classic cars and P.J. Heck his military weapons display.

According to organizers: “Each year this event gets bigger and better. We had nearly 900 military, veterans and their guests enjoying the free food, entertainment, military displays, classic and antique cars and, thanks to our local businesses, some really great door prizes. Thank you military and veterans for keeping us free for 241 years.”

Next year’s event will be on June 2, 2018.
