Deputies investigating two deaths following vehicle fire

RACCOON TWP. — Gallia County sheriff’s deputies are currently on the scene of a vehicle fire involving the death of two people in the Rio Grande area.


Gallia County Sheriff Joe Browning said at approximately 8:30 p.m. Thursday that deputies, along with the Rio Grande Volunteer Fire Department and troopers with the Gallipolis Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol, responded to a vehicle fire on Garnes Ford Road south of Rio Grande, where the bodies of two individuals were found.


Browning said the cause of death of the two people is unknown at this time, pending autopsies of the deceased. Gallia County Coroner Dr. Daniel Whiteley has reportedly been called to the scene.


Agents with the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Identification and Investigation are processing the scene, along with Gallia sheriff’s deputies and Ohio State Fire Marshal officials. A Jackson County sheriff’s deputy was also on scene Thursday evening to assist.
