The communities of Mason and Gallia counties came out in force last weekend to uplift and raise money for the Smith family, who lost two children and their home in a January house fire. The benefit concert and event was held at Point Pleasant Junior/Senior High School all day Saturday and included musical groups donating their time and talent — including the French City Chorus, pictured here. In addition to music, child-friendly events were held like a cake walk with announcer Angela Yates (filling in for Sue Sylvester) calling out the lucky numbers in the gymnasium. Also pictured, Jody Rife doing face painting for these lucky young ladies in the PPJ/SHS Commons Area. No word yet on just how much money was raised, though 100 percent of the proceeds were going to the Bill and LaTanya Smith family, who are currently helping 14-year old son Tré through his recovery at Shriners Hospital for Children in Cincinnati. Tré was severely burned in the fire and his family has also started a Facebook page titled “Tré Smith’s Journey to Recovery” to keep the public updated on his progress.
