The cast of celebrity dancers for the second season of Dancing With Our Stars sponsored by The Ohio River Valley Chapter of the American Red Cross will be unveiled Friday, Nov. 8 at the Elk’s City Club in Portsmouth from 5 to 7 p.m.

Dancing with Our Stars chairperson, Vicky Hatcher said they are excited about the second round of the event and very encouraged by the support that has already been given.

“We are optimistic about our fund raising goal because of the great support that we received from the community. Our goal this time is to raise $50,000,” Hatcher said

According to Hatcher, the first season of Dancing with Our Stars was presented to a sell-out crowd generating more than $43,000.

“All of the proceeds remain here for our local chapter to support Red Cross programs in the community,” Hatcher said.

All funds raised support local disaster prevention, preparation and relief, the life-saving training of first aid, CPR/AED classes, collection and testing of blood and blood products, support to members of the military, transportation and international programs.

Hatcher said the event allowed new friendships to form among those who attended.

“Also, what was amazing about last year is that so many people were not aware of what the Red Cross does. I think we were able to build a lot of awareness about what we can do,” Hatcher said.

Hatcher said people came from many other surrounding counties to participate in the Dancing with Our Stars event.

“We had people that came from other counties that didn’t even know each other, and many friendships were made as a result, and that is just great,” Hatcher said.

Dancing with Our Stars 2014 is set to convene Saturday, April 5, 2014, at the Friend’s Community Center. Ticket information will be available at a later date.
